The Importance of the Unreasonable Man

The Importance of the Unreasonable Man

Almost every person in the world takes a certain pride in being a reasonable person. They will make prudent choices based on their background and attitudes. The safe decision minimizes the chances of being wrong. No one likes to be wrong.

The safe decision, however, carries little upside reward benefits. You are expected to pay your bills. Pay your taxes. Drive responsibly. Not yell fire in a theatre. Doing these things nets you no special extras.

All of the great ideas or advances in history have evolved from unsafe, unconventional ideas. The non-conventional idea always offers the higher reward, as well as higher risk. It is not the norm to be unsafe. It takes vision and confidence in the face of the usual chorus of criticism, doubters and opponents.

George Bernard Shaw said:

“The reasonable man adapts to the world.

The unreasonable man adapts the world to him.

     All progress depends on unreasonable

Babe Ruth My Childhood Hero

As a boy I remember watching those black and white videos of babe Ruth hitting home runs and running above normal speeds. Those videos always seemed faster than normal and the players not quite as athletic as today’s ball players. Although baseball has come along way since the 1930s, history was made and yesteryears records are rarely broken.

Born on February 6, 1895 George Herman Ruth, Jr better known as The Babe had a talent that was apparent at an early age. As a boy, The Babe played as a catcher then at about 15 years of age he started pitching. The Babe had talent in many positions and his swing was remarkable. His pitching and batting talent was immediately noticeable.

At age 19 The Babe was recognized by Jack Dunn owner and manager of the Baltimore Orioles. Jack was known as one of the best talent scouts in baseball of his time. When other players saw the young Ruth they referred to him as Jacks Newest Babe, from that day on George

Ron Santo: Should He Be In The Hall Of Fame?

The Blue Angels fly over the Cubs – Astros game at Wrigley Field during the 1998 Chicago Air & Water Show.

Ron Santo: Should He Be In The Hall Of Fame?

Selection to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, Ohio is an honor bestowed upon the greatest of the great in Major League Baseball. There are only 289 inductees of which 202 are players. It is a very select group considering baseball has been around for more than 100 years.

With that in mind, should Ron Santo be elected to the Hall of Fame?

It is without a doubt that if you are a Chicago Cubs fan Ron Santo should have been selected a long time ago. His number has been retired and flies with Ernie Banks on the left field pole.

But it takes more that just being a very popular former Chicago Cubs. Each year the Baseball Writers Association of America votes on who should be elected. To be voted a player must be named on 75% of the ballots cast. There is a five year wait after retirement for a player to eligible. The writers vote is based on the player’s record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character and contributions to

Twins Mauer & Morneau lead the surging team!

August 4th game between the Cubs and the Astros. After play has stopped, the tornado sirens started going off, then, as the storm approached the field, the sirens cut off.

Twins Mauer & Morneau lead the surging team!

Very few teams win 21 of 23 games and still find themselves on the ground floor but that is the case with the Minnesota Twins and the AL Central division. They have won 11 straight but the Tigers and White Sox refuse to let them into the party as we head to the All Star break.

Joe Mauer will part company with his teammate Justin Morneau who was neglected by AL manager Ozzie Guillen when he filled out his all star roster this past weekend. Mauer leads the majors with a ridiculous .391 average and has fought off stomach complications to remain in the lineup. His buddy Morneau has been on fire of late hitting safely in 11 straight games and in 22 of the past 23 games, going 39-for-91 (.429) with 11 homers and 33 RBIs in that span. As mentioned the Twins have won 21 of those 23 games.

The Mets are lucky they are playing in the inept NL East division as they have been less then stellar yesterday. They have been outscored 55-24 in the past 7 games, including

Betting On Baseball Has Never Been Better

Please watch 1 of 2 first. On Clip 1, Mark DeRosa was called out on a close play, and then first base coach Matt Sinatro and manager Lou Piniella came out and were ejected. WATCH THE WHOLE PLAY: www.youtube.com When you heard the crowd suddenly cheer toward the end of Piniella’s confrontation, what I didn’t know was that the outfield bleacher fans started throwing trash all over the field. Then they had to send a bunch of workers out to clean it up. There is probably only 10 seconds between that clip and this one. As soon as I realized what was going on in the outfield, I turned the camera back on. Here it is. For pictures and videos to this game and others, check out my website www.david-mccann.com . I am 23 years old and my wife and I are trying to attend all major league ballparks and see all of the teams. Check it out. I have hundreds of photos and plenty of videos to see.

Betting On Baseball Has Never Been Better

July 31, 2006 (Toronto, Canada) – The road show in Ohio has come to a halt and I am back north of the border where former NFL running back Ricky Williams is once again passing the time not playing football. With less than a month to go ‘till the start of the College Football season and with the NFL right behind the kids, bettors are rubbing their hands in gleeful anticipation.

Before we get zoned in to the football scene, I would be remiss if I did not give kudos to major league baseball which has become the definition of parity in sports. Every time you think you have a team pegged as a contender or on the verge of being eliminated from the race, the tide turns drastically.

Last week, I suggested to readers that the St. Louis Cardinals were set to soar-off away from their competitors in the NL Central as they were getting healthy and had played excellently on a recent West Coast swing. They were heading to Wrigley Field this past weekend for a four

Yankees’ Safari is All About the Tigers!

Yankees’ Safari is All About the Tigers!

The New York Yankees are on a mission and they have their sights set on gunning down the Tigers, thus making sure that all AL playoff teams must venture to the Bronx if they plan on playing in the Fall Classic!

While the pinstripers have been on a 7-3 pace the past 10 games, the Tigers have done the reverse going 3-7 and now must contend with the advancing Twins. Other competition is the defending World Series Champion, Chicago White Sox, who sit only 3 games back in the loss column for the wild card spot.

Ozzie Guillen’s troops have the toughest road to travel and their playoff fortunes will be decided on a tough West Coast swing this week at Los Angeles and Oakland. The Yankees get Tampa Bay who has the worst road record in baseball with just 19 wins, and then the Red Sox who have no bullets left in the chamber.

In Minnesota, the Twins will need to refocus as the offensive machine known as the Oakland A’s invades the Twin cities. The A’s are

Survey Reveals Future of Car-centered City

Survey Reveals Future of Car-centered City

As Zipcar, the world’s largest car sharing service, celebrates its seventh anniversary, it conducted a survey on what car-centered city life will be seven years from now.

Questions were asked to the respondents in North America to come up with conclusions on what will happen seven years from now in a city which is car dependent. Examples if the queries were: How many minutes does it take for you to get yourself in the office from your house? Will gas prices keep rising? How long does it take to find city street parking? If you live in the city now, will you still be here in 2014?

In May 2000, Zipcar altered city life by giving the urban people a new option to car ownership. As a matter of fact, the car servicing organization conducted a survey among its members to measure how urban residents throughout North America believe urban living could or should change in the next seven years.

Zipcar CEO Scott Griffith
